The divorce procedure in Nepal is governed by the National Civil Code, 2074 (Part 3, Chapter 3).
There are two main ways to get divorced:
(1) Mutual Consent Divorce (दुवैजनाको सहमतिमा): Both husband and wife jointly agree to end the marriage. The court can finalize the divorce within 1–2 weeks after verification.
(2) Single Party Divorce (एकतर्फी सम्बन्ध विच्छेद): When one spouse files without the other’s consent. The court issues a notice to the other party and proceeds after hearing. It may take more than 12 months depending on circumstances.
